FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
-
How long after picking up my loved one will cremation occur?
It’s always our goal to have everything done in a timely manner. In most instances we can complete a cremation within 2 weeks. However, this is contingent on the death certificate being registered, payment being rendered, and the crematory’s schedule.
-
What should I do if my loved one dies at home alone?
If a death occurs at home and the person is not on hospice, you will need to call 911. Please do this first before calling us. If the person is on hospice you will need to call them first.
-
How many death certificates do I really need?
You may not need as many as you think. Social security is automatically notified with registration of the certificate. Most banks, utilities and credit cards will only need a copy of the original.
You will need an original certificate for the following; insurance, pension, trust, stocks/bonds, brokerage accounts, and the transfer or sale of property.

How does payment work?
We do not require payment or paperwork to take someone into our care. Most of the time, we don’t even start the arrangement process before we pick up. Our policy is to inform and update as we go along. AFS accepts credit cards (3.5% fee), checks, cash, cashiers checks, and money orders.

Who is the Next of Kin?
A very important legal part of arrangements begins with the Next of Kin. We treat every member of the immediate family with care and consideration. However, we must have the Next of Kin sign all of the forms.
This is a brief list of order of kinship;
DPOAH (Designated Power of Attorney for Healthcare), Spouse, Children over 18, Parents, Brothers and Sisters and so forth.
This is easily determined by our funeral director. If you are the Next of Kin and do not want to fill out the forms, you may always authorize someone else legally by signing a Change of Authorized Authority Form.
